If you want to access media files on your Xbox, PS3 or iOS from your Mac then Rivet is a lightweight and effective solution.
In fact, Rivet basically allows you to access any media on Wi-Fi network without needing to copy or sync. This means you can enjoy music, movies, and photos from anywhere in your house by streaming them to your Mac. This includes iTunes and iPhoto libraries (or any folder on your Mac) to devices including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
Rivet runs quietly in the background and uses a simple GUI that allows you full control over exactly what you want to share. This includes specific albums within iPhoto, specific albums within iTunes and specific films within your video collection.
However, as is often common with these types of streaming applications, you may suffer occasional issues with streaming. Video streams in particular may be interrupted or file formats not recognized for example. In addition, firmware updates to AirPort Extreme may disable Rivet until the developer issues fixes. You may also experience occasional bugs in connecting Rivet to your devices if your Mac has been re-awakened from sleep mode.
Overall though, Rivet is a slick and easy way to stream multimedia data from your devices to your Mac.
